When you show care for something you show concern for, serious attention to or protection for. I would not show the same concern over my everyday dishes as I would for my china set for example. Why? Well one would be more expensive, valuable and breakable thus making it more difficult to replace. I would handle the china then with more care. When the children were young, they learned to do the dishes with the place settings we used daily. However, until they were older and I knew they could handle china, Jim and I did the china dishes. We used care in handling that which was valuable to us.
In this particular verse the Lord is expecting the children of Israel not to forget the awesome deeds they had experienced. They had seen the great works the Lord had done for them. He had provided for them in the wilderness, delivered them from the hand of pharaoh, given nations into their hands, he had spoken to them and made a covenant with them. Now the fear of them had gone before them into the land of promise to prepare the way for them. God was great in their midst but now He was saying be careful you don't let these things fade from your heart.
My tendency is to think how on earth could you forget the great things God had done for you! However, the Lord knows who we are. When times are difficult our eyes look on the circumstances around us and we forget the times God has delivered, provided or healed. Or, when everything is good, we can get distracted and busy and simply forget who it was that brought us this far.
For this reason, we are challenged to remember and recall the good things that God has done. Jim and I were visiting with a lovely young couple. They were telling us their story of how they met and how the lord had lead them and provided for them. We told some of our stories of what God has done for us. We came away inspired. Why? Because the same God that is at work in us is at work in others. We need to keep telling the testimonies of the great things the Lord has done for us. As we speak of them, they light up again in our minds and burn in our hearts. They ignite faith and without faith it is impossible to please God!
God has the power to accomplish anything. We must be careful not to loose sight of His greatness, His goodness and His glory. This verse goes on to say teach them to your children and their children. In other words, tell your testimonies to the younger generations because you will cause them to grow and believe that if He did great things for you, He will do great things for them too!
