So, why do these things in response to preaching the kingdom of God?
Jesus manifesto or very purpose for coming to earth was to destroy the works of the evil one. (1John3:8) Jesus went everywhere plundering the kingdom of darkness, wreaking havoc on the devil’s work. He established His Kingdom in the midst of a broken, dying world and instead brought one that was full of life, love and liberty.
The teachers of the law were a strong contrast to Jesus. Jesus said: be a servant of all, I am the good Shepherd, I do not condemn you, I am the bread of life, and everyone who believes in me has eternal life. The teachers of the law said: you have sinned and you deserve to be stoned, you're sick therefore you must have sinned or at least your parents. Jesus poured out love extending grace and mercy. The teachers of the law loaded people down with guilt and condemnation.
Jesus’ whole ministry on the earth was to give us life and he calls us to do the same. Freely you have received freely give. The two kingdoms are a stark contrast to each other. Now he says to us go into the entire world and do like wise, bring my freedom, my life and liberty, heal the sick cast out demons and raise the dead. That's why we can gladly say, ‘your kingdom come right here, right now’!
