Psalm 86:15 “But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.”
It is a good thing to know who God is. In the book of John he states that God is love. The very essence of who He is and what He does pours out of that foundation. 1 John 4:16 says we know and rely on the love God has for us. The Father does not change like shifting shadows. The love we received when we were babes is still the love we receive now. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
In fact this verse says He is abounding in love. Abound means to overflow, in abundance and plentiful. Love covers a multitude of sin and it never fails. It shows it's self in compassion, graciousness, and slowness to anger and in faithfulness.
Many times in the gospels Jesus was moved with compassion. This movement would result in the kingdom of God being manifested on earth as it is in heaven. The sick would be healed and delivered, the hungry would be fed and people would be raised from the dead. Compassion shows mercy, kindness and tender affection.
But it flows from a heart that is motivated by love that abounds.
Prayer: “Father I ask you for a revelation of your great love. Pour out Your compassion upon my family and me and bring Your healing power in every area of my life. Thank You that I can rely on Your love for me.”
