Psalm 103: 2-5 “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Benefits are like perks. They are a payment or gift, part of a package deal! Well, there are definitely benefits in coming to The Lord. When I worked as a teacher one of the benefits was that my time of work was the same time as our children. When they had holidays so did I! I could drive them to school because they went to the same school where I worked.
In this verse we see five benefits that we receive when we make Jesus our Lord. Firstly, he forgives your sins! All we need to do is repent and he will forgive. In fact after that, he doesn't even remember them. Verse 12 says that as far as the east is from the west, that how far he has removed our transgressions from us. It's like having a chalkboard full of every sin you ever committed completely erased. Gone, not to be remembered ever again!
Secondly, he heals all our diseases. Healing is part of our covenant. It is the children's bread. Jesus took all our sicknesses on the cross and by his strips we are healed. This verse also says he heals all. He doesn't pick and choose; he has already taken all our diseases. ALL means the whole lot!
Thirdly, he redeems your life from the pit. Redeem means to buy back. It's like a coupon. When we take it to the store and we buy something we can pay for it with the coupon. In the same way Jesus buys us out of the hole we have dug for ourselves. If our life is in ashes then he will give us beauty instead of the ashes.
Fourthly, he crowns us with love and compassion. A crown sits on the head and you are crowned when you are royalty. If you are royalty and you are wearing a crown people will open doors for you, favor will follow you and grace will abound to you.
Lastly, he renews your strength like the eagles. Isaiah says even the youth grow tired and weary. It is so true. We all grow tired in our own strength. But he promises to renew our strength when we wait upon him.
These benefits are part of being blessed by The Lord. Every good and perfect gift comes from him and is meant to be part of our life.
Prayer: “Father I thank you for your benefits. I ask that you would heal me strengthen me and crown me with your love. Thank you for all your blessings.”
