Psalm 59:16 I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; For you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.
It is interesting that the psalmist states twice in this verse that he sings. It is scientifically proven that singing causes endorphins to be released into the body, which makes a person feel good. It also causes the mind to focus and the body to relax. So when you start your day with a shower and you find yourself singing in there, chances are you are doing exactly what God intended to get you in the right mind set for the day.
We see that the focus of the singing is two fold. First he sings of Gods strength. Why? Because in turning our eyes to how strong and all-powerful He is, reminds us that nothing is impossible with Him! I remember singing Proverbs 18:10: “The name of The Lord is a strong tower, the righteous run into to it and we are saved”. Even now as I write it I am singing the tune! It has been years since I sang that song but it has stuck. The truth that He is strong is in my being. Exodus 15:2 says: “The Lord is my strength and my song; He has become my salvation”. He is majestic in power!
The second truth the psalmist focuses on is God’s love. Over and over the Hebrews rehearse this core truth. God is love. There are many words that are used to express His divine love. His love is great, majestic, unending, unfailing, abounding, enduring and everlasting! Love comes from God and His love compels us. That is a good reason to sing!
Prayer: “Lord I thank you for your great love and mighty power. Help me to focus on you and to sing of who you are, in Jesus matchless name. Amen!”
