Psalm 87:7 “As they make music they sing, "All my fountains are in you."
Fountains are beautiful, refreshing and represent the source or origin of anything that is life giving. From the geysers in Iceland to the man made fountains in Rome man is obsessed with looking at them and drawing life from them. But psalm 36:9 says: “for with you is the fountain of life”. That is why our psalmist says all my fountains are in you!
So how do we know if all our fountains are in Him? I think the answer is simple. We need to ask ourselves what we are drawing on. Jesus came to give us life and that more abundantly. He continually beckons us to come – ‘come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest’. There is an exchange that happens when our fountains are in him. He is the one that heals the sick, sets the captive free and fills our lives with joy.
However, Jeremiah 2:13 says, " My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me the spring of living water and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water". We can easily fall into the trap of trying to do things our way. Our eyes get drawn to that which causes us to be "busy". In doing so, we forget the source of life and run to that which the world offers. We dig our own wells and the result is emptiness, not life and that more abundantly.
Jesus is the source of life. In Him we live and move and have our very being. Let His spirit draw you, bubble up in you and give you the peace and joy you are looking for. Life can be found in none other.
Prayer: “Father, forgive me for every place where I have forsaken you and dug my own wells. I ask that you would wash over me and fill me afresh with your presence. I thank you for in your presence is fullness of joy.”
