Psalm 101:1 I will sing of your love and justice; to you, Lord, I will sing praise.
The whole bible, old and new testaments, speaks of the love of God. In fact, 1 John 4:8 says that God is love. He doesn't merely show love, he is love. That means out of him flows what He is and that expresses itself in love toward us. Love is not a passive word but an active one.
John 3:16-17 says, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” God activated His love for us by sending His son to take the punishment of our sin, guilt and shame upon Himself. That way justice would be rendered and we would be free from the judgment we deserved.
Justice is fair, reasonable and impartial treatment. We all want to be treated justly. However, we know that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Therefore, we all deserve punishment. The good news is that Jesus took our punishment upon himself so that we can stand before the Father clean, spotless and pure. Is it because of how good we are and how well behave? No! Nothing we do can earn the Fathers love. He loved us before we ever loved him.
The fact that Jesus took our punishment upon himself so we could be free was not justice for him. However, as far as the eternal court is concerned, all our sin is paid for and now justice has been served to the enemy. We are free to live in the love of God. Free to sing and celebrate the wonderful love and justice of our great and mighty God!
Prayer: “Father, I thank you for your loving kindness shown to me in Jesus. I thank you that I can stand before you perfect and without spot that all my sin is paid for. Fill my mouth with gratitude for all you have done that I may sing of your great love. Amen.”
