Psalm 64:1 “Hear me, my God, as I voice my complaint; protect my life from the threat of the enemy.”
In this Psalm David is verbalizing his complaint to the Lord. The word ‘complaint’ is a statement that a situation is unsatisfactory or unacceptable. In making a complaint a person will often express reasons for their dissatisfaction or grievance. This is precisely what David proceeds to do in the rest of the psalm. What he is expressing before the Lord is what he could see that was coming against his life.
The threat from the enemy was coming at him in the form of a conspiracy. A conspiracy is defined as a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful. Plots, plans and schemes were being devised for his demise. Tongues were wagging and words were wounding his soul like deadly arrows. David could see what was going on and he was voicing his vexation.
Paul says in 2 Corinthians 2:11 not to be unaware of the enemies schemes and again in Ephesians 6:11 that we need to take our stand against the enemies schemes. In 1Peter 6: 8 we are told to be self -controlled and alert. Why? Because our enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour!
Over and over in the Old and New Testaments we see the need to stand against that which comes to steal, kill and destroy. The good news is we have been given everything we need to do battle and the victory is our in Christ. We just need to recognize we are in a battle, take up the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God and use the shield of faith with which we can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one!
When we see a situation in our life or the life of our family that is not acceptable we need to lay out our complaint before the Lord and fight the good fight against the enemy’s schemes.
Prayer: “Father, I ask you would open my eyes to the plans and schemes of the enemy. Empower me to walk in the authority you have given me and fight the good fight of faith.”
