Psalm 108:12-13 Give us aid against the enemy, for human help is worthless. With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.
Personally I like the way the King James Version of this verse reads. It says, “Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless. Through God we will do valiantly, for it is He who shall tread down our enemies”. I know for many of us trouble is more likely to come our way than the thought of an enemy. Trouble can come in the form of sickness, work related stress, relational issues or financial loss. It could also mean an attack on your life.
Life can be full of troubles of many kinds. The word trouble means difficulty or problems that cause anxiety or distress. Jesus said in John 16:33 that in this world you will have trouble but take heart, I have overcome the world. The truth is we will have trouble but God. God is the one that we can go to in our time of need.
Our verse states that human help is worthless. We can talk to humans, ask for advice but there is only one that can deliver us and turn our ashes into beauty, our mourning into joy, our heaviness to praise and our chaos into peace. Human help may be worthless but God’s intervention is real, tangible and fruitful.
God promises to step into our lives and trample down our enemy. Yes, we have an enemy that wants to steal, kill and destroy. However, Jesus has destroyed the work of the enemy. That was his purpose in coming to earth. To set us free from the grips, plans and schemes of the devil. We have the victory in Christ and through Him we can do valiantly! Valiant means to possess courage and determination. God gives us the courage to face our enemy, then He fights our battles through us and He gives us the victory.
Prayer: “Father I thank You that with You we have victory. I ask that You would come right into the midst of my trouble and trample on the enemy in my situation. I thank You that I am free; that my strength is in You and in You I can do valiantly.”
