Psalm 77:6 “I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.”
I will often wake up with a song rumbling through my mind. Lately I have found that the song sticks for days, even weeks. It feels as if it is a song for the "time" in my life. It could be related to what is happening in my life or even the event of the nations. Whatever the case, the Lord is getting my attention he is speaking to me.
Romans 8:26-27 says that the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
The spirit of God within us searches the very depths of our souls. Only God truly knows what is in the heart of a person and therefore he knows exactly what we need. Search is a verb, an action word. It means to try to find something by looking or otherwise seeking carefully and thoroughly. God examines us thoroughly in order to help us in our time of need. There are sources of problems in our lives we often can't even begin to see or explain. But God knows and he is at work to will and to do according to His good pleasure.
When we wait on the Lord he communes with us. David said search me Lord, and know my anxious thoughts. God knows you. He knows when you wake up and when you go to sleep. He is for you and intercedes through you for you. His spirit is alive in you and is working all things together for good in your life.
Prayer: “Holy Spirit come and work in my life. Search my heart and intercede through me. Speak to me in the night season that I can meditate on you and what you are doing in my life.”
