1 In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: "Flee like a bird to your mountain. 2 For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart. 3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do ?" 4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; his eyes examine them. 5 The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence his soul hates. 6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot. 7 For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice;upright men will see his face.
Psalm 11:2 says, ‘for look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart’. We have all been victims of words that pierce our heart and weigh heavy in the soul. The old saying of sticks and stones may break your bones but names will never hurt you is rubbish. Words are powerful and the enemy loves to shoot them at the upright.
As a believer in Christ, you need to recognize that you are in a war. Your battle is not against flesh and blood, that is, other people, but against the devil. He doesn't like you and his purpose is to destroy you. Ephesians 6:16 says that we are to take up the shield of faith with which we can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Your faith is where the victory comes from. (1John 5:4).
Note the words " with which YOU can". You have a part to play when the enemy comes at you with words and accusations. Isaiah 54:17 says that no word or weapon formed against you will prosper and you will refute every tongue that accuses you. This is the arrow you need to use on the accuser when words are spoken at you. Resist them in the name of Jesus and break their power over you. In doing this you engage in the battle and become the victor rather the victim.
Prayer: "Father I break the power of any word or weapon formed against me in Jesus name. Give me eyes to see the battle we are in and the strength to fight. Amen."
