1 Help, LORD, for the godly are no more; the faithful have vanished from among men. 2 Everyone lies to his neighbor; their flattering lips speak with deception. 3 May the LORD cut off all flattering lips and every boastful tongue 4 that says, "We will triumph with our tongues; we own our lips--who is our master?" 5 "Because of the oppression of the weak and the groaning of the needy, I will now arise," says the LORD. "I will protect them from those who malign them." 6 And the words of the LORD are flawless, like silver refined in a furnace of clay, purified seven times. 7 O LORD, you will keep us safe and protect us from such people forever. 8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.
Psalm 12:1 says, ‘Help Lord, for no one is faithful anymore, those who are loyal have vanished from the human race’. There are times in life when it feels like everyone has abandoned you and you are all alone, abandoned and lonely. The truth is that Jesus loved all but trusted his heart to none. He knew that although his friends said they would go with him even if they had to die that their loyalty would be challenged. For Peter, that loyalty and faithfulness failed three times.
There is one that sticks closer than a brother and will never leave you or forsake you. Jesus said to his disciples that he would be with them even to the ends of the earth. For Peter the disloyalty issue was fear based, for Joseph when his brothers sold him into slavery it was jealousy. Whatever the cause and whatever the outcome The Lord is always there to heal, restore and renew hope and life.
One of our greatest challenges in life when people have failed us is to forgive and forget. I read a sign once that said to forgive is human but to forget is divine! Forgiveness is a key to unlocking us when we feel people have failed us. If we allow ourselves to stay in a state where we feel nobody is for us it could lead down a path of self-pity and depression. The solution is to remember that you have a friend that is for you, loves you and is faithful. His name is Jesus!
Prayer: "Lord, I feel hurt deeply by friends who said they were for me and not against. I ask you to come heal the pain in my heart and deliver me from the sense of betrayal. I choose to forgive them for their lack of faithfulness. I release all cynicism and scepticism that I have taken up to protect my heart from being hurt again. I place all my trust in you for your word says you will never leave me nor forsake me. Amen!"
