Psalm 124:7-8 We have escaped like a bird from the fowler’s snare; the snare has been broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.
The fowler was a professional bird catcher. In the days prior to firearms, birds were captured with nets spread on the ground, in traps and snares. This verse likens the enemy of our soul to a fowler. He is the devil, the deceiver, liar, accuser, stealer, killer and destroyer. Paul tells us not to be unaware or ignorant of the enemy's devices. He is out to snare us to keep us from bring Gods Kingdom here on earth as it is in heaven.
The thing about a snare is it is done in secret or hidden places. Traps and snares are strategically placed to allure the prey in. Bait can be used to entice the bird into position for the capture. Once in place the snare is snapped and the bird is trapped. The enemy uses these ploys on us. This is why Jesus says in the Lord's Prayer, "lead us not into temptation but be delivered from evil".
The good news is that the Lord does deliver us from the evil one. He has a covering that will protect us if we stay hidden under the shadow of His wing. He will send angels to protect us and the Holy Spirit will lead us into all righteousness. We can be kept from the snare of the fowler. However, even if we are lured into the trap of the enemy ensnared by his deceit, God will deliver us from that place.
Our help is in the name of the Lord. There is no other name that is higher than the name of Jesus. When we call on His name we shall be delivered! There is nothing that is too difficult for Him and there is nothing He will not forgive. The good news is that Jesus does not condemn us when we fail but He grants us the gift of repentance that leads to life. We are set free from the snares and traps that the fowler has in the mighty name Jesus. Call on Him and He will set you free!
Prayer: “Father I ask that you would lead me not into temptation and deliver me from all evil. I ask that in every area of my life where the enemy has ensnared me that You would set me free in Jesus mighty name. Amen!”
