Psalm 125:1 – 2 “Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.”
The psalmist is using an analogy to establish how secure trust in the Lord is. A mountain definitely fulfills that purpose as it is imposing and a true symbol of stability. Trust in the Lord is stable, sound and dependable.
To trust means to believe in the reliability, truth, ability, or strength of someone or something. It also means to allow someone to have, use, or look after (someone or something of importance or value) with confidence. When we trust in the Lord we are allowing Him to look after us but most notably with confidence.
Not only does the psalmist declares our trust in Him is like a mountain but also that the Lord surrounds us like a mountain range. Mountains are rarely isolated but usually part of a cluster. Psalm 5:12 says: “For surely, O LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” When we trust in the Lord he surrounds us with His favor. He encompasses us. Psalm 34:7 says: “The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.” We have angels protecting us.
So despite how our circumstances appear we need to stay in trust for the Lord truly is looking out for us and we can be confident in that.
Prayer: “Lord I will trust in You with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength for I know you are faithful. Amen.”
