Psalm 136:23 “to the One who remembered us in our low estate "His love endures forever." 24 and freed us from our enemies, "His love endures forever.””
Every verse of this psalm finishes with “His love endures forever”. It is repeated 26 times. It may seem like overkill to repeat a phrase so often but repetition seals a thought or fact into your memory. There is a dual purpose for this particular technique here.
One of the reasons to repeat it over and over is so we understand that no matter what is happening in our life He loves us forever. God does not fall out of love with us. In this world we are surrounded by divorce, abandonment and abuse in relationships. Words like I love you mean very little when the people who said them leave you or neglect, control, or emotionally and physically abuse you. Marriage seems to be no longer forever. To overcome this deep insecurity and subsequent self-reliance we need to hear it over and over and over again. His love for me endures forever.
Each repetition is linked to an action the Lord took on behalf of the Israelites. Not only is He repeating His love for us, He is reminding us of how He acted on our behalf. God’s love is confirmed with action. The two verses, 23 and 24, assure us that if we find ourselves in a low state of affairs He will free us from those things that conspire against our well being. Why? Because His love endures forever! He reminds us 22 times of His actions on our behalf and then assures us He will continue to act to deliver us.
Prayer: Repeat: “His love for me endures forever” at least 10 times or as many times as it takes to find faith to believe it is arising within you. Do it daily until it becomes truth and an automatic thought in all unexpected situations. Amen.
