Psalm 33:1 Sing joyfully to the LORD, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
We are encouraged to sing joyfully to the Lord with music, new songs, playing skillfully and shouting (which anyone can do). Lately Bonnie and I have been rejoicing in how blessed we are. We praise the Lord for the sunshine, the warm days, the city we live in, the home we have, our health, our family and anything else that is a blessing to us. The world news reminds us of how blessed we are. Someone walking with a walker or in a wheelchair stirs us to bless the Lord for our health and to ask His healing for him or her. We are grateful for all He has done.
The author gives us good reasons to praise and bless the Lord. He says:
1. The word of the Lord is right and true.
Because it is we can stand on it, quote it, depend upon it and know that He is watching over it to perform it. He says what He means and means what He says. We can pray it with assurance of its fidelity. We can rest in its veracity knowing it will never change.
2. He is faithful in all He does.
The Lord is reliable. He does not waver or flip flop on what He’s said or does. He keeps His promises to us. Our salvation is secure in Christ. There is no changing.
3. He loves righteousness and justice.
We all want to be treated fairly. He doesn’t treat one better than another or is subject to bribes. He asks all of us to live this way too.
4. His love is unfailing.
How amazing is this? His love does not fail us. He loves us. That alone is enough to worship and praise Him forever.
5. He is our help and shield.
The Lord is here for us. If we need help in any form, He is available to us. He is also a shield to protect us from the fiery darts of the enemy. He shelters us and protects us.
6. He spoke and it came to be.
His word is powerful creating the heavens and the earth. Hebrews 4:12 says: “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” He still speaks. Are we listening?
7. He stands firm forever.
He does not waver. He is not finite and suspect to fatigue and age. He stays the same in His unfailing love. This we can depend upon.
8. His eyes are upon you and His unfailing love is extended to you.
Wow! There aren’t too many of us that He would lose sight of us. Like a concerned parent in a playground He keeps watch over us. Why? Because He loves you and me!
9. He delivers us from death.
Death no longer has power over us. Its sting is gone. No more fear of what the future holds. For those who believe we go to be with Him.
10. He keeps us alive during famine.
Despite what we see around us He sustains us. Famine can take on many forms but He will keep us alive during it. He is our source in all situations.
For all of these reasons let us be thankful and bless His holy name. An attitude of gratitude changes everything.
Prayer: "Father, I am so thankful for all you have done for me. I rejoice over your steadfast and unfailing love for me. Thank you that you deliver me, love me, are faithful and watch over your word to perform it. Bless the Lord, o my soul! Amen!"
