Psalm 4:6 "Who will bring us prosperity?" Let the light of your face shine on us.
What an interesting verse! The question is asked, who will bring prosperity and the answer is: Lord, let your face shine on us! The Israelites knew that if the Lords face shone on them they would be blessed. In Numbers 6:22-27 Aaron and his sons are told to pronounce this blessing over the people. Twice in the blessing the priests say, “The Lord make his face shine on you and again The Lord turn his face toward you”. So what is the outcome when His face is turned to you?
This priestly blessing gives us a glimpse into the outcome. Verse 27 states that The Lord will put His name on the people. Then Psalm 4 tells us that as a result of his face shining on us we will have 1) joy that will fill our heart, 2) that the work of our hands will abound with prosperity, 3) that you will have peace that passes all understanding, 4) you will have sleep and 5) you will be kept from evil.
There are five results that David shares in this psalm. Five is the number of grace. That means when the Lord’s face is shining on us grace is extended to us. Grace is receiving what we don't deserve, in other words unmerited favour. We all need grace abounding in our lives. So why not pronounce the priestly blessing over you and your family and be ready to receive the flow of God’s favour in your life.
Prayer: "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace." So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them. (Numbers 6:24-27)
