Please pray before you read: “Open your word to me. Breathe the breath of the Spirit upon it and release life changing revelation, Lord.”
Psalm 5 is a beautiful picture of Prayer. In verse 7 David shows us how we can approach The Lord. He says that by your great love Lord we can enter your house and then he continues and says in reverence I bow down. Paul says in Hebrews 4:16 that we can approach Gods throne of grace with confidence to receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
There are three elements I would like to comment on. Firstly The Lord is madly in love with you. Repeat that to yourself often. God loves me. John says in 1 John 4:16 that we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love and He wants to hear from His kids. As a parent I know that it is always a pleasure to hear from my kids. How much more your Heavenly Father. He loves you, He loves your voice and He is waiting to meet with you!
Secondly, David says he bows down in reverence. Reverence is humility. It's not a groveling but it is an acknowledgement that He is great. Humility recognizes who He is. 1 Peter 5:6-7 says, humble yourselves under Gods mighty hand that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Note that it says humble yourself! We need to position ourselves in that place where we are before God and there we admit you are God and I am not. You are great, you love me and care for me therefore, I rely on you. Humility is surrender to the Almighty knowing that he works all things together for our good.
Thirdly, David has an expectation. In verse 3 of psalm 5 David says that in the morning he lays out his requests before The Lord and then waits expectantly. Paul uses the word confidence. Come before the throne of grace with confidence. The thing is we have to have an assurance that God hears us when we pray and that He will answer. If we don't have that expectation that he will respond then why bother? All through the Bible we see God showing up and intervening in people's lives. He cares for you and me and that's why we can pray and wait for the answer. It's not 'will he answer', its 'when and how will He answer!'
God wants to stir us up again in the area of prayer. That is fellowship with God and that is what we are made for. My challenge for you is to position yourself before The Lord knowing He loves you and give Him what is in your heart. Expect a miracle!
Prayer: Father, I thank you that you love me, hear me and answer my prayers. Every concern I have I cast upon you. I eagerly expect an answer to my prayers. Amen!
