Psalm 55:2,5 “My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught. Fear and trembling have beset me; Horror has overwhelmed me.”
Our thought life is the control center for our lives much like a controller for the TV. In fact Proverbs 23:7 says as a man thinks so is he. The national science foundation says people produce 50,000 thoughts a day. The truth is that your thoughts lead to words and words lead to action. Consistent action produces habits and habits develop character. And character will affect your destiny! In other words what you are thinking matters!
There is a battle for the minds of people and we need to recognize that before we can engage in it. Scientists figure that 70-80% of our thoughts are negative. That is stinking thinking! Everyone falls prey to negative, judgmental, irrational, fear-based thoughts that challenge their actions, motives and plans. The enemy is after the minds of people because he does not want us to walk in the fullness of who we are.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 states clearly that although we live in this world we don't wage war like the world. Why? Because the battle for the mind is spiritual! That is why we operate in divine power. We use this power to demolish strongholds, arguments and pretensions. We take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
The Psalmist here has to battle his thought life. You need to actively engage in your thought life because as you think, you are. If I find myself fearful, negative, judgmental or irrational then I know the enemy of my soul is trying to rob me and it's time to battle. How? Take every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and tear it down. Refuse to go down the path of destruction and choose to receive the peace of God.
Prayer: “Father I ask for a spirit of wisdom and revelation. I ask that you would quicken me when my thoughts become toxic. Help me to engage in the battle and take my thoughts captive when I need to. In Jesus mighty name, amen.”
