Psalm 57: 7. My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast, I will sing and make music.
The heart in the bible is referred to over a thousand times. Your heart denotes the central place where physical, emotional, intellectual and moral activity takes place. It's the core part of your being that sustains you.
Your heart is hidden and inaccessible to man but not to God. 1 Samuel says, man looks on the outward appearance but God looks at the heart. No wonder we are told in Proverbs 4:23 to guard our hearts above all things. Out of our heart our mouth speaks and reveals what is there. From our heart comes our belief in our Savior and yet Jeremiah say our heart is deceitful! No wonder David asks God to create in him a pure heart. And yet Proverbs 17:22 says a cheerful heart is good medicine!
David says in this verse that his heart is steadfast. Steadfast means fixed or unchanging. If you are a steadfast friend you are firmly loyal or constant regardless of circumstances. David is really saying he is determined in his purpose and is resolved to trust God with all his heart or with everything that is in him.
The last portion of the verse shows what David is going to do to strengthen his resolve. He will sing and make music! What will that do for David? It will awaken his soul to the greatness of God. He will fix his eyes on the love and faithfulness of his deliverer. And with that, his heart will be happy and that will make his face cheerful! (Proverbs 15:13)
Prayer: “Father I thank you that you look on my heart. I thank you that you are steadfast and unchanging in your love for me. I ask that you would create in me a pure heart that would sing and awaken my soul to your loving kindness. Amen.”
