Psalm 58:3-6. Even from birth the wicked go astray; from the womb they are wayward spreading lies. Their venom is like the venom of a snake. Like that of a cobra that has stopped its ears, that will not heed the tune of the charmer, however skillful the enchanter may be. Break the teeth in the mouth O God, Lord, tear out the fangs of those lions!
Ephesians 6:12 says that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual principalities and powers. It is important to know that we are in a battle. David's battle was a physical battle. But today we war in the spirit. Our battle, although sometimes it feels like we are warring against a person, is not to be fought in the flesh but is won in the spirit!
Paul tells us not to be unaware of the enemy’s devises. So what are his plans? Well right from the beginning we see the devil comes to deceive and lie. Verse three of our psalm says the evil person spreads lies. The enemy is the father of lies. John 10:10 says he comes to steal, kill and destroy. That is his plan for you and your family. But Jesus came that we might have life and that more abundantly.
We need to recognize what is going on around us because we are not defenseless. The enemy prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour (1Peter 5:8). The verse goes on to say resist him! We have been given powerful weapons that destroy the works of the evil one and we have all authority to trample upon the snake and scorpion. However, with authority comes responsibility and that means we need to use what we have been given. Through our God we will do valiantly, we will tread down our enemy!
Prayer: “Thank you Father that you have given me everything I need to fight the good fight. I ask that you would quicken me when I need to pick up my weapons and use my authority over the enemy. I thank you that I have the victory in you.”
