1 I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonders. 2 I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. 3 My enemies turn back; they stumble and perish before you. 4 For you have upheld my right and my cause; you have sat on your throne, judging righteously. 5 You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever. 6 Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished. 7 The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. 8 He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice. 9 The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. 11 Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. 12 For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted. 13 O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death, 14 that I may declare your praises in the gates of the Daughter of Zion and there rejoice in your salvation. 15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. 16The LORD is known by his justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. "Higgaion.""Selah" 17 The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God. 18 But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish. 19 Arise, O LORD, let not man triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. 20 Strike them with terror, O LORD; let the nations know they are but men. Psalm 9:9 -10: “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you”.
The word refuge is defined as a place that shelters from danger, distress, calamity or trouble; any place that is not accessible to the enemy. The only place that is safe for us to hide is in the Lord. He is our shelter, our hiding place in times of trouble. Psalm 91 says that He hides us under His wing. It makes me think of little children that run to their parents’ bed when there is a loud thunderstorm that frightens them. The Lord is that place for us. There will be times of trouble in your life. Trouble is defined as difficulty or problems. When problems come your way the safe place to be is in the hands of The Lord. Psalm 31:15 says: “my times are in your hands”.
Psalm 9 goes on to say that those who know your name trust you. This is the crux of the matter! If we know the name that is above every name, if we know that He is always for us and not against us, if we know that His love never fails, then we can put our lives in His hands. It comes down to a knowing. When we have that revelation and our hearts and minds are in agreement then we can run to the arms of the one that will keep us safe. To know is to perceive or understand as fact or truth; to apprehend clearly and with certainty. This is both fact and truth: The Lord is our refuge. We can truly run into Him in our time of need.
Pray: “Lord, I pray that you would open my mind to the scriptures. May I see you more clearly and may I know the love of God. Show me how wide, how deep, how long, how high is your love for me. Do not let that feeling of being forsaken come near me. I trust you and take refuge in you.”
